When one of our daughters was younger and felt frustrated with things she was being asked to do, sometimes she would say in frustration “NO ANYTHING!”. It seemed to us that What she was trying to express in those moments was pretty much “I’m mad, I disagree with you, and I don’t want to do anything you want me to do.”
Our political climate has gotten to a point where it often feels like “NO ANYTHING!”: where our two main political parties and their leaders can’t find even a single square inch of common ground nor anything praiseworthy from the other side. Positive readers like yourself can surely find something good in pretty much everyone, and from there it’s easier to spot a potential compromise or another point of view. For a great, short message on how people of different viewpoints can get along, check out this video from the governors of Colorado and Utah on how to “disagree better”.
